place of replace
2023
installation at Gallery 400 in Chicago, IL

What remains?
In artifact alone, what do we know?
Rather than offering supplemental context next to the artifacts within this installation, I left them out
on their own. Without context, this installation was a stage for revision.
This installation was part evidence, part listening stage.

Two past performances were held in various clay pockets for a listener to enter sonically. They were fragile and insisted on time and care. I separated the two performances— CLEAVE on the wall, and The Gesture of Searching on the floor.

There were other fragmentations in the room, like two chairs facing one another, echoing the performance Action Potential. Or the prompt to collectively listen, echoing the performance listening stage.

This installation was a poem for time-based works that drift into some untouchable place. This installation was a poem for the impossibility of knowing if we’ll remember the present moment.
