what remains?

2023
installation at Gallery 400
University of Illinois at Chicago
Two past performances were held in various clay pockets for a listener to enter sonically. Sound is fragile and insists on time and care. I separated the artifacts of two performances — CLEAVE on the wall, and The Gesture of Searching on the floor.

Rather than offering supplemental context next to the artifacts, I left them out
on their own. Without context, this installation was a stage for revision.

There were other fragmentations in the room, like two chairs facing one another, echoing Action Potential. Or the prompt to collectively listen, echoing a performance listening stage.

This installation was a poem for time-based works that drift into some untouchable place. This installation was a poem for the impossibility of knowing if we’ll remember the present moment.
